MOU Signed for Modernising the Land Registrar offices in Uva Province
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between UNDP AGSL and Assistant Land Registrar of Uva Province on 08th October 2009, in support to improve the capacity of Land Registrar offices of Badulla and Monaragala.
AGSL will provide the computers and peripherals necessary to two Land Registrar offices (LROs) to ensure quality and efficient service delivery of the institute. Currently the records and the administrative work of the LROs are done manually which take a considerable period of time. After introducing the new software and the system to the LROs, the respective staff of two offices will be given training to improve their skills to use and maintain the new system. After introducing the new system, both offices of Badulla and Monaragala will be able to complete the backlog of land registration activities within short period of time and deliver very efficient services to the public and thus can make more income to the local government on time.

The AGSL-Uva organized an exposure visit on 7th and 8th September 2009 to Southern Province to witness the advantages of replacing the manual system and how far the LROs in Galle and Kotapola had been able to advance with the new system. Then, the drawbacks and the areas to improve in the software and the implementation of the system were also identified, since this will help to overcome such difficulties in implementing the project in Uva LROs.

Registrar General Mr. E. M. Gunasekera; Assistant Registrar General - Uva Province Mr. Ranjith Dayananda; District Land Registrar - Monoragala Mr. D. M. Piyasena; District Land Registrar - Badulla Ms. R.M.S.K.P. Wijesuriya; AGSL Uva Governance - Ms. T. M. Indrani Tennakoon and UNDP AGSL Uva Province Area Manager Mr. Sinnathamby Vijayapala participated in the event followed by the discussion.
