The representative of Divisional Secretariat of Haldummulla, Manager of the Udaweriya Estate, Grama Niladhari of the area and the representative from UNDP AGSL Uva participated for this occasion to assure their fullest cooperation in support to this effort of the community. Preliminary site preparation activities were carried out on this occasion by the community under the leadership of Udaweriya Estate Cooperative society. The president of the society, Mr. Rajendran explained the importance of the project as they have been
undergoing many difficulties due to no electricity to their houses, and assured their contribution in the form of unskilled labour. The society received the building material necessary for the construction of the dam across the water stream.
This project will be implemented by Udaweriya Estate Cooperative society with the technical support and guidance of Provincial Ministry of Power of the Uva Province. The project will cost nearly Rs 3.0 Million. The Mini Hydro plant will generate 10 Kw output benefiting 50 households in Weerakoongama, where the access to national grid is limited due to various reasons.
