Upgrading Haldummulla community water supply system
A community awarenes programme was held on 07th September 2009 at Bathgoda Community Hall on the planned Halldummulla water project. Officials of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board of Bandarawela, Haludummula Pradeshiya Sabha, Divisional Secretariate and Public Health Inspector and the members of the community participated for this programme.

AGSL supports the community water project at Bathgoda of Haldummulla considering its importance and relevance in reducing the incidence of water born diseases and associated health problems in the area. These diseases are most often emerging as an epidemic due to contamination and poor quality of the drinking water. At present, existing community water supply system catering to nearly 130 families in Bathgoda village, have neither filtering nor disinfection unit which are indispensable to provide quality drinking water to the beneficiaries.


After having the site inspection, experts of National Water Supply and Drainage Board of Bandarawela agreed to provide technical know-how and the design to install Slow Sand Filtering Units and Chlorination unit to upgrade the exsisting water supply system. Bathgoda Swashakthi Community Base Organization exphasized their capacity and interst at this workshop to take part in implementation of the project, as they are responsible by mandate to operate and maintain the system. UNDP AGSL Uva will support the necessary upgrading of the system in order to ensure quality drinking water to the community.
