Provincial Department of Animal Production and Health - AGSL Uva partnership: establishing the model dairy farms in Uva
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between UNDP AGSL and the provincial Department of Animal Production and Health on the 25th of May 2009 to develop two model dairy farms.   

AGSL South and SLILG partnership: introducing the Provincial government diploma for elected officials in the Southern Province
A workshop which gathered representatives from the Sri Lanka Institute of Local Governance (SLILG), the provincial authorities, various local governmental institutes, Ruhuna University, the private sector and UNDP AGSL was held on the 21st of May 2009 in the Wakwella training centre in Galle. The workshop was organized by SLILG in partnership with UNDP AGSL to discuss the proposed Management Diploma in Local Government for elected officials in the Southern Province.  

A sweet deal: UNDP and Ceylon Biscuits sign agreement to promote honey production in the Uva Province
Colombo, May 20: United Nations Development Programme today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL). The MoU formalizes the partnership between the two for support and promotion of bee honey production in the Uva province. The Memorandum identifies the areas of cooperation and assigns roles and responsibilities for each party.   

North-South Cooperation: Andalusia delegation from Spain visits Sri Lanka to strengthen the decentralized cooperation with South
In an effort to strengthen the decentralized cooperation partnership between the Southern and Uva Provinces and the decentralized partners of Andalucia from Spain, a delegation comprised of the representatives of FAFFE (Andalucia Foundation on Formation of Employment), the council of Granada and the city council of Malaga came to Sri Lanka on 9th May for a five day mission. The delegation was received by the Chief Secretary of the Southern Province Mr. A. Samarasinghe along with several of his ministers, deputy chief secretary of planning and the AGSL team. After the morning reception and the induction to the provincial system of Sri Lanka, in the afternoon the mayor of Matara welcomed the delegation with an exclusive reception.  

Cooperation between RUEDA and SLIIT to establish a Management Information System
The Ruhuna Economic Development Agency (RUEDA) is partnering with the Sri Lanka Institute of information Technology (SLIIT) to establish a Management Information system (MIS) for the RUEDA.   

UNDP Country Director visits AGSL Programme in the Uva Province
UNDP Country Director - Douglas Keh, Assistant Resident Representative (ARR) -Zoe Keeler and the team visited the UNDP ART GOLD Sri Lanka Programme (AGSL) in Uva Province (UP) on 21st April 2009. The team met the AGSL Uva Province team under the leadership of the Uva Province Area Manager (AM), Sinnathamby Vijayapala to discuss the status and progress of the AGSL in Uva. The AGSL Uva team members made a warm welcome and had a fruitful discussion with the Country Director and his team.  

AGSL supports in transferring innovative local techniques for river bank conservation
In the process of supporting the local communities to organize to develop their territory, AGSL promotes technical support, the facilitation and establishment of sustainable partnerships, the transfer of technical knowledge and the exchange of innovative experience between participating partners. Under environment conservation activities of AGSL, it was identified that an initiative to address the issue of river bank erosion is needed to mitigate and further prevent the adverse effects of river bank erosion in the Nilwala river bank. Therefore, AGSL has initiated the Nilwala river bank conservation project by facilitating a knowledge sharing process to transfer successful local techniques used elsewhere in the country to benefit the communities in the Matara district.   

Bio Gas Unit at Ettampitiya Rural Hospital
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the AGSL and the relevant Provincial and relevant authorities to commence the construction works of the planned Bio-Gas Unit for the Ettampitiya Rural Hospital on 29th April 2009.  

AGSL Uva partners with public and private sectors to boost bee keeping industry in the Uva Province
The handing over of the bee boxes to farmers in Uva was organized by the Provincial Department of Agriculture of Uva Province, on 28th April 2009 at Dedicated Economic Centre of Keppetipola, Welimada to mark the field implementation of the bee keeping project planned under the joint partnership between AGSL and Ceylon Biscuit Limited (Munchee).
