The south-south cooperation between the two provinces of Gorontalo of Indonesia and Southern Province of Sri Lanka is the first joint initiative of UNDP ART GOLD Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Within its framework, a five day Sri Lankan mission to Indonesia, headed by the Southern Province Governor, Hon. Kumari Balasooriya and the Chief Minister Hon. Shan Wijelal de Silva was successfully concluded on 20th December.
Following the initial recruitment process, five well experienced government officers from Uva Province were selected to AGSL Programme in the Uva Province. They are already released by the Chief Secretary of the Uva province to assume duties in their new working place.
The ten day training programme of sign language was successfully concluded on 4th December 2008 in the Southern Provincial Centre for Disabilities (SPCD) in Kalegana. This is the first programme of its kind organized by AGSL in the province and the inputs given by the participants at the certificate ceremony during the closing of the programme were encouraging.
UNDP AGSL Programme equipped the new IT training center. The first computer training for 25 government officers was initiated on 4th December after the ceremonial hand over of the IT equipment to the provincial authorities.
With the generous support of the Diputacion de Huelva for Kotuwa President College in Matara , the laying of the foundation stone for the new building for the school took place on 03rd of December.
The Ruhuna Development Bank (RDB) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the joint implementation of a Guarantee Fund Scheme within the context of the Local Economic Development component of AGSL on 01st of December 2008.
The UNDP AGSL Uva team consist of Area Manager, International United Nations Volunteer (IUNV) and the Community Development Specialist will be fielded in the Uva Province in the first week of December 2008.
