Co-operatives

The “Co-operative Society” in Sri Lanka was established by a parliamentary act. Devolved to the local level, these are under the Ministry of Provincial Council. In Southern Province (SP) there are three district corporative offices of the Corporative Societies. The primary objective of these societies is to address the needs of the community at the grass root level and to support them to upgrade their living standards.

AGSL has identified the potential of the corporative as a means of reaching out to the local community. At present, AGSL is working with:

  • Kotapola Multi Purpose Co-operative society
  • Galle District Co-operative society
  • Milk Producers’ Co-operative Hambantota and Matara
  • Galle District Co-operative federations
